Learning To Use Revit!

This was the first house that I made when I just started off using revit. It is not very complex but it allowed me to figure out the basics on how to design a house on revit. The way that I figured out how to build the house was by looking at the Revit Design Software. It allowed me to figure out how to lay the walls out, where the doors and windows go, and how to put the roof on. By using the software I was able to get a base for me to be able to design the house that I have been designing all semester.

Where The Water Goes - Plumbing Plan

This is the plumbing plan for the house that I am designing. The point of the plumbing plan is to allow the builder to see where all of the water lines are supposed to go. I think that the hardest part about making the plumbing plan was trying to figure out a good way to get the pipes to everything that needs water, but doing it in a way that uses the least amount of piping. The plumbing plan affected my house because it made me have to add a 6 inch wall next to the stairs, so that I could get the water lines to the second floor and to the two bathrooms up there. By doing this plan, I learned the different types of lines that are used to show different types of water lines.

Maximizing the Space of Small Areas - "Not So Big House"

After reading many different articles about the "Not So Big House" movement, I have learned a great deal about maximizing the space. One of the biggest factors that allow a small area to seem bigger is the color of a room. The lighter the color of the walls the more open the house seems. Also, instead of putting in walls to separate rooms it makes to room feel bigger if you just use a framed opening to separate them. This way there is a definite separation from room to room and the room feels like it is bigger than it actually is.
The ideals that I got from the "Not So Big House" movement greatly influenced how I made changes to my house. Instead of putting a wall going down both sides of the stairs, I only put the wall on one side and made the other side open to the living room with a railing, so it gave the living room a more open feel. Also, instead of separating the dining room and kitchen with a wall I decided to separate them with a bar so that they felt more open.

North, East, South, West Elevation Views

These are the elevation views for my house. The main reason for doing the elevation drawings is to get a general idea of what the house is going to look like after it is finished. Also, it enables the builder to show the home owner what kind of siding and other accessories would look good on the house. The hardest thing about making the elevation drawings was having to figure out what all is supposed to be annotated and what gets left out. This is especially tricky because in the different views different things have to be annotated.

Roof Plan with Cupola!

This is the roof plan that I developed for my beach house. Even though it looks simple, there are many things that went into making it. Included in these little things are; making the cupola, putting in the gutters, and putting in the downspouts. The hardest part of making the roof plan was figuring out how much ventilation was needed for the attic. After all was said and done I think that the roof turned out really well on the house.
